Frequently Asked Questions

Does NoiseWave work without an internet connection?

Yes. NoiseWave generates sound entirely on your device. It does not require an internet connection, an account, or any external services.

Will the sound keep playing when my screen is locked?

Yes. NoiseWave is designed to continue playing in the background and through screen lock so it can be used overnight or during long focus sessions.

What happens if I get a phone call while the app is playing?

NoiseWave automatically pauses for phone calls, Siri, alarms, and other audio interruptions. It resumes playback once the interruption ends, if the system allows it.

Does NoiseWave duck other audio?

Yes. When NoiseWave is playing, the volume of other audio sources (notifications, navigation prompts, etc.) is temporarily reduced so you can still hear them.

Why did the sound stop when I unplugged my headphones?

By default, iOS pauses audio when the active output device (like headphones) is disconnected. NoiseWave follows this system behavior to avoid surprising you with loud audio from the device speaker.

What are the colored preset buttons?

Each preset shapes the frequency spectrum a different way:

• White — equal energy across all frequencies (classic static)
• Pink — softer, warmer, more balanced for human hearing
• Brown — heavy low-end rumble, often used for sleep
• Blue — bright, treble-heavy, good for masking high-pitched noises
• Random — a randomized spectrum each time you tap it

You can also drag directly on the spectrum to create any shape you want.

How does the sleep timer work?

Tap the moon (zZz) icon in the top right to choose a duration. Audio will fade out and stop after the selected time. You can pick a preset length or use the custom hours/minutes picker.

Does NoiseWave collect any data about me?

No. NoiseWave does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Will my custom spectrum and settings be saved?

Yes. Your spectrum shape, color theme, volume, and sleep timer preference are saved locally on your device and restored next time you open the app.

What devices and iOS versions are supported?

NoiseWave supports iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later.

Is there an Android version?

Not at this time.
